£50 million fund to help residents struggling with oil costs

The Government has confirmed that over £50 million of funding is available from 1 April for low-income families in the UK to help pay for oil to heat their homes.
In England, £27 million of funding will be distributed by local authorities via the Crisis and Resilience Fund, targeting areas with higher rates.
Why is the fund needed?
The price of kerosene – the fuel used for heating oil - has been especially affected by the conflict in the Middle East and has risen faster than other fuels, such as petrol and gas.
In Great Britain, those who heat their homes with oil are not covered by the energy price cap, meaning they are exposed to more immediate energy price hikes.
Many, including those already struggling to support themselves or pay their bills, will need to pay an upfront lump sum to top up their tanks to maintain their heating and hot water.
How do I apply?
You can contact your local authority to find out about funding available - see the full list here. If you need support to pay your rent or bills generally, you can contact us or visit our Cost-of-Living Support page. We are here for you.
What is the Government doing about the price hikes?
The Government intends to regulate the heating oil sector to protect customers and improve their experiences.
