Supporting residents through house fires

Homes affected by the fire

After carrying out a repair on a small estate in East Hanningfield on the afternoon of Friday, 8 August, an Eastlight plumber was grabbing lunch in his van when he heard a huge bang. Seconds later, he saw a carport erupt into flames.

Wasting no time, he rushed to the property nearest to the fire and wrenched open the kitchen window when he realised the residents inside didn’t know what was happening.

John quickly helped the family safely outside and called the fire service, as well as alerting those in nearby properties – another three of which were severely damaged and unhabitable. He then remained on site, helping to keep residents safe and collecting contact details of neighbours.

Meanwhile, swift and coordinated action was taken by teams across Eastlight and emergency services. Some remained there late into the night, liaising with emergency services to help keep the residents safe and sorting emergency accommodation.

Residents affected by the fires continue to be supported by our teams to find suitable accommodation whilst the homes are being repaired, and, in some cases, rebuilt.
