Eastlight residents and staff celebrate Purple Tuesday

On this Purple Tuesday 2023, we share our commitments and look ahead to building a fairer future for our disabled residents.

Today, we join our fellow Purple partners and ambassadors on this annual awareness-raising day to share learnings and best practice around creating more inclusive environments that are reflective of society around us.

Eastlight residents – including Customer Influence Committee (CIC) Chair, Michelle Baker, and Member, Craig Clackett – are attending today’s Purple celebrations at London Piccadilly and Canary Wharf.

Michelle said: “As an Eastlight resident with two children with disabilities, I’m a fierce advocate for the disabled customer.

“Eastlight have come a long way over the last few years in enhancing their support and services for disabled residents and communities, but there’s still much more work to be done. Together, we can – and will – do more at Eastlight. That’s a promise."

Celebrating this achievement on this significant occasion, Hugo said:

“I am very proud of Eastlight’s achievements through the Disability Confident scheme, due to our close work with Purple over the past few years. Our work with ECL has also been paramount in this achievement, and I’d like to thank them for supporting us every step of the way.”

Our next steps

In a dedicated year-long project, Eastlight will be working closer together with our CIC and disabled residents to better understand their experiences, identifying key improvements needed to ensure our homes and services are accessible, adapted and equipped to enhance quality of life.

The work commences with a special Disability Inclusion event in collaboration with Purple this November, bringing together residents, leadership teams and disability organisations.

It aims to spotlight the biggest challenges faced by those living with disabilities, our progress made so far, and our upcoming plans for working in partnership with residents to create lasting homes and communities that are safe, accessible and sustainable.

If you’re a disabled resident and would like to help us shape the future of our accessible homes and services, then please look out for more information coming soon or email Hugo Drummond, Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, on Hugo.Drummond@eastlighthomes.co.uk.
